It seems like so long ago we were all sitting around watching our friends scroll through this new app called Instagram on their iPhone 4’s. I’m sure your conversations went something like this:
“It’s like Facebook but just for pictures…”
“That won’t last long, that’s boring.”
Well, this year Instagram turns 10! The app quickly caught the eye of the marketing world and has only expanded from there. With the introduction of boost posts, ads and in-depth analytics it’s never been easier to know your audience and cater what they want.
We’re breaking down what Instagram does best: getting those likes. Let’s start giving you the rundown on the top ten most-loved Instagram photos of all time.
Ten:
This isn’t the only appearance Kylie Jenner will make on our Instagram list. Currently with 168 million followers, this isn’t surprising. The make up mogul knows her angles and VSCO filters – and I suppose the professional photographers help too.
Nine:
After the rough year Selena had she came back thriving. She was living her best life on a boat in Italy and her followers rushed to support it in the form of 14 million likes.
Eight:
She’s back again and better than ever. The photos show a very happy Selena on the beach hanging around with her friends and celebrating her friend getting married.
Seven:
There is not a single person alive who dislikes Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and the amount of likes he got on this post proves that. He tied the knot to his now-wife Lauren in his homeland of Hawaii.
Six:
The world was left heartbroken by the death of Kobe Bryant. In an emotional post, LeBron James pours his heart out as he talks about his friend and team mate.
Five:
A newcomer has stormed the list! This post seemed to appear on everyone’s stories almost simultaneously. Not only is this a perfect example of what you can do with good marketing and a smart social media team, but proof that people do care about the planet and are trying to make change! The campaign is still active so go ahead and like it and plant one more tree.
Four:
Jennifer Anniston posted this picture with her *ahem* friends… and the internet went wild. Aniston broke the Guinness World Record for being the fastest person to reach one million likes on a picture. It took her just five hours and 16 minutes to set the entire Instagram world into a Friends frenzy.
Three:
To someone who isn’t up to date on the situation, it may look like any other regular baby photo. But Kylie kept us waiting to announce this one, 341 days to be exact. After hiding her pregnancy from the public, this was her way of finally letting the world know that Stormi was here.
Two:
This was the first and the last post on the late rappers Instagram page. Eerily, before his death, a snippet of his upcoming video was released where he attended his own funeral.
One:
Started from the bottom now we’re here. The number one most liked photo of all time. An egg.
This picture of an egg cracked Kylie Jenner’s Instagram record by a long shot, with over 50 million likes at the time of writing. The account was speculated to be lots of things but finally it was revealed that it would be explained during the Super Bowl.
It was an effort to make people speak out about their mental health in collaboration with the streaming service, Hulu. The cheeky egg even got a response from Kylie herself.
