In celebration of World Chocolate Day, we’ve had a look back on the most iconic, entertaining and heartwarming campaigns created by Cadbury.
As one of the oldest and most loved chocolate brands in Britain, Cadbury has won the nation over time after time. Through the concept of giving and sharing, the brand continues to represent chocolate as the greatest gift of all.
Below we have presented the top Cadbury campaigns, guaranteed to pull on your heart strings and make you want nothing more than a delicious bar of dairy milk. Go on - Choc em out!
Mum’s Birthday
In 2018, Cadbury released one of the most heartwarming adverts of all time. They stripped back on novelty-style advertising in favour of a touching narrative.
In this ad, they feature a little girl who wants to buy a Cadbury Dairy Milk bar for her mum’s birthday. She politely asks the cashier for the chocolate, before handing over a few trinkets. As an act of kindness, the cashier passes back her favourite unicorn toy, as well as the bar of chocolate.
The Eyebrows Advert
Perhaps more entertaining than heartwarming, the iconic “Eyebrows” advert, is still widely recognised and remembered, 13 years later!
The ad features two children, a girl and a boy, seated in front of a plain background at a photographer’s studio. The boy pushes a button on his watch and "Don't Stop The Rock" by Freestyle starts to play. Throughout the advert, the kids move their eyebrows to the beat of the song. The slogan, "A Glass and a Half Full of Joy," is then displayed over a bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate at the end of the advertisement. A great reminder to do (or eat) the things that bring you joy!
Donate Your Words Campaign
In partnership with Age UK, Cadbury launched the “Donate Your Words” Campaign to encourage the nation to have conversations with the older generation.
Cadbury removed its iconic branding from the Dairy Milk bars and instead featured true stories told by older people. With every bar sold, Cadbury then donated 30p to Age UK. The heartwarming campaign encouraged people across the nation to donate their own words, by having a friendly chat with older people in their community.
The Gorilla Advert
The Gorilla advert is a Cadbury Classic. First launched over 15 years ago, the 90 second video is still as iconic as ever! The campaign first appeared on British television but has since appeared in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to name a few.
According to Media Merge, the campaign went on to win multiple awards, including the film category at the Cannes International Advertising Festival. It was also credited with increasing sales by 7%.
The ‘Bus’ Campaign
In its latest advert, ‘Bus’, Cadbury once again promotes the concept of giving and sharing. They spread this message through the well known slogan “there's a glass and a half in everyone”.
The tv ad, created by VCCP London, features a young boy who is on a bus with his mum. He holds a bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk, tempted to open it but told not to by his mum. As he turns his head, he sees a teenage crying girl beside him. This then prompts him to open the packaging and offer her a piece of his chocolate. She declines but smiles at his gesture. The advert then ends with the message: “there’s a glass & a half in everyone”. The short video combined with the Brand’s slogan aims to highlight the extraordinary people who go above and beyond for others.
And there you have it! The most memorable campaigns by Cadbury. How will you be celebrating World Chocolate Day?
